I have just finished my investigation on the actual prices of the spare parts that were installed on our van. Here's the story. I had Roadstar diagnose the problems, then the mechanics suggested to replace one part after the other since after replacing one, the problems weren't solved. They have this shop policy that if you bring or buy your own spare parts, they won't give any warranty even on the labor. This shocked the hell out of me! What if the mechanic installed the parts incorrectly? So, I decided to have them canvass and buy the parts for me if the price fits my budget.

Our van had this whining noise and the mechanic first said it was a belt problem. Since the whining didn't disappear, they suggested that I change the automatic belt tensioner and idler pulley as well. So I said go ahead replace all those three parts.

To my dismay the problem never really disappear and I even end up installing the old belt because the noise is manageable with it than the new belt installed. I was really upset because it cost me 17.5K including labor for that! I decided to investigate where they buy the parts. Luckily I was able to get hold of the box of the new tensioner which the supervisor tried to hide from me. hahaha! If I was shocked by the no-warranty policy, I was more shocked with how much they bill me for each spare parts. It's more or less twice the actual price! If it is how they price all the spare parts no matter how cheap or expensive they are, wow your bill will easily balloon!
