San Miguel Beer opened its bid in the 2007 PBA preseason tourney with a 100-94 win over Alaska Milk yesterday at the Lyceum gym.
Danny Ildefonso, Enrico Villanueva, Dondon Hontiveros, Samigue Eman and Danny Seigle each scored at least 13 points, leading the Beermen past the Aces who are the Fiesta Cup champions and also title-holders in this preseason event.
Reserves Willy Wilson and Gabby Espinas came through with crucial baskets down the stretch to seal the San Miguel victory in the fiercely fought match.
The Beermen erected a 12-point lead, 94-82, midway through the fourth quarter but the Aces came charging back at 94-91 on a nine-to-nothing run capped by a triple by Cabatu.
But San Miguel wouldn’t be denied as the Beermen played with greater poise and composure at the finish.
Two-time MVP winner Willie Miller paced the Aces with 16 with Eddie Laure and John Ferriols adding 13 apiece and Tony dela Cruz 12.
Asa na imohang ken bono, jr quinahan og cabatu do
kinsa ni upper cut nila, c tenorio?? ahahahaha!
San Miguel Beer fan here.
The win is actually not a very good and reliable barometer as to how Alaska will really fare through the season. It's only a pre-season tournament and such games are no-bearing games. The win is actually not so good for SMB. They had a comfortable lead in the fourth quarter before blowing all up, good thing they were able to hold on.
What I want to see and watch out for Alaska this season is that how will they end up this season now that all the other stars of other teams are back. They have to prove that their recent title is no fluke, they defeated a very short handed Talk N' Text who's without Asi Taulava, Jimmy Alapag and Renren Ritualo and it took them 7 games, setting aside Rosell Ellis for that matter.
alaska fanatic pud ko!!!
7yrs old pako...that was 16 years ago....hehehe
alska na jud! bong alvarez! johnny a...hangtud karon!
mao jud.. pre-season games, pampa-gana ra na.. lol
last bitaw, agains the korean team, wa jud starter sa alaska ang ni duha sa 4th quarter.. they give to their bench player.
gikalingawan ra to sa alaska ang san miguel oi...para maganahan sila sa umaabot ba...
alaaaaaaaska! wohoo!
nah. the SMB win just showed how Alaska can keep up with the beermen with only their old reliables turning in big numbers, unsaon na lang if mopakita na ang Teletubbies nga si Ken Bono and JR Quinahan? I agree with yokam, challenge for Alaska is to prove they can win it all when no players are loaned to the NT
buhion ta ni beh....
what's your top 10 most anticipated SMB games/events for the upcoming conference
for me it will be (in no particular order)
1. 1st game, 1st impressions: San Miguel's 1st game of the season
2. The Debut of the SMB neophytes : rookies Eman and Villanueva and newly-acquired player Fonacier
3. Philippine Cup Finals rematch : San Miguel vs Ginebra (no explanations needed)
4. Revenge of the Beermen : San Miguel vs Alaska
5. Tale of the "Lipat-Bakod"s : San Miguel vs Redbull (with Villanueva, Fonacier and Tugade ; Adriano and Cablay of Redbull as centerpiece)
6. Devance meets the Beermen : San Miguel vs Welcoat
7. Battle of the Titans : San Miguel vs Talk n' Text
8. Jawo and his favorite opponent : San Miguel vs Air21 (that is if Jawo accepts Air21's offer to coach them)
9. The Sister Act : San Miguel vs Purefoods (interesting side story, Seigle, Ildefonso and Villanueva versus Yap, Adducul and Raymundo...explosive match-up)
10. DS versus KW season II : San Miguel vs Sta. Lucia
better luck next time.
We may see a 6-2 Ariel Capuz manning the point for Alaska this coming season with the departure of Dale Singson who have retired. Mike Cortez is still not his old self coming from injury and a long layoff. Other possible pointmen still in the Aces preseason roster are the 6-4 Christian Luanzon and 5-7 Rensy Bajar. In a preseason losing effort to SMB, Capus was used extensively at the point. He plays big guard and small forward in the PBL and once played power forward and center over at JRU in the NCAA.
ex-SSC Stag Nicole Uy is also trying out
