Songwriting is largely dependent on the influences of the individual bandmembers sukad sa pagsugod nila ug PAMINAW ug music, meaning sukad pa nila PAGKA BATA... We are all limited to what we know... Whether a musician likes it or not, apil gyud to iyang influences pagkabata.. That's why some singers are so beatleuesque even though they don't own a beatles record, or claim to not have been influenced by them... Subsconsciously, they have been influenced, albeit, from their parents' old record collection...

I learned that lesson the hard way.. i used to sing for a band and i had really accomplished bandmates.. they were so good, we covered everything from Ramones, White Zombie, Smashing Pumpkins, Screaming Trees, Extreme, Pearl jam, Green Day, Candlebox etc.. We did that for more than a year.. But When we tried writing our own songs, i personally found them really crappy... We couldn't find our own identity... sayang...

I think chemistry can properly be ascertained by playing originals as soon as possible...

hey.. don't take this seriously.. these are my own opinions birthed from my own experiences... as you yourself had said, mas ni work sa inyoha imo methods...

    ayuz!@!
I somewhat agree... There was this band we were together in highschool and they were composed of probably the best musicians from our class but we had better chemistry than them even if our skills were WAY lower than theirs...

Agree... I think this thread was created to throw opinions based on experience and or theories on what 'works well' - covers/compos for the artists... People just want to know how other artists tick I think... Relax... hehe

And as for me, started with covers while "creating" originals - then gitang-tang dayun one by one ang mga covers after naay malimpyu na original... then usahay k mu-cover balik just for the fun of it...
PROs sa covers k MOSTLY dali makasakay ang audience, ang CONs k mas prone pd sa criticism ang artist since i-compare mn sila USAHAY sa original artist sa kanta
PROs sa compo k dili dali masakpan ang sayup (hehe), CONs k it takes time and a lot of "gigging" for people to learn your songs...
Pro nakabasa pd ko sa previous post na krn mas open minded ug dali na mu-appreciate ang mga audience sa mga compo which agree pd ko and I think is evident...

if you want to be heard and be noticed by people, covers would do the trick. I often hear people say na "oi, they do great covers of this band and so...you should check them out..." As you build a following, you should play more covers. Coz mao na ang maka-stick sa minds sa mga tao.

Ever remember those old bands sa una who covered the sikat bands of their day?well can u still remember themhow about bands like Sheila and the Insects na dugay2x na, they started with covers and actually began the trend of doing all originals, and going to manila,
even before urbandub and the rest of the guys did.

    maybe, oh maybe.lol!!!

its good to cover songs when you're starting out and ga mold pa mo sa inyong sound pero sooner or later you have to do original stuff -- you'll get the respect of your fellow musicians and fans. tanawa nagn mga artists like MYMP or Sitti puro lang covers...
