    copper will form rust in just a matter of minutes that is why they placed a nickel coating. during usage a lapped proc will have a thin layer of thermal paste protecting it from being exposed to oxygen in the air. but if the manufacturer will ship it with just the copper then you will have a rusty proc since there is no protection on the box. that's is why heatsink makers who ships pure copper based heatsink put a sticker on the buttom part so that it will prevent oxidation (rust build-up) and scratches as well.

    dili man cguro tay-an jud.. naa ra cgro mu-buildup na mga residue/mold from moist since this is a copper not a metal.
