    Raising awareness and mobilizing partners. People need information about the purpose
    and benefits of multilingual education if they are to support MLE programmes. Awareness-
    raising and mobilization activities should provide information that will encourage people to
    work together in planning, implementing and supporting their programme. Activities can
    take place at the community level, at the district or province level, or nationally.

    Awareness-raising and mobilization in communities. People from minority language
    communities who have experienced many years of discrimination and neglect may feel that
    their language and culture are of no value. They often believe that the best thing they can
    do for their children is to get them into the “language of power” as quickly as possible. They
    are afraid that if they use their own language in the classroom, their children will have fewer
    chances to learn the official or dominant language.


    To overcome these perceptions, awareness-raising should focus on both the educational
    and the cultural value of multilingual education. Activities can include talking about MLE
    with parents and other community members, showing them reading materials in their
    own language, performing dramas or skits (for example, a skit to show a class with the
    teacher using a language the students don’t understand, followed by another skit with
    the teacher using the students’ home language) and then talking about the message that
    was communicated, visiting an MLE class in another community, or showing a video of an
    interactive MLE classroom.

    Awareness-raising at the Community Level
    for a Primary School Programme

    Educators in the Philippines visited a local community to talk with parents about
    the MLE programme that had been established in their school. Some parents
    still did not fully understand the purpose of the programme and were worried
    that their children would not be able to learn Filipino and English (the official
    languages of the country) well. The visitors explained that the MLE programme
    was meant to help their children to build a strong educational foundation in
    their home language and a good bridge to the official languages.
    The visitors
    carefully answered the parents’ questions and gave examples from other parts
    of the country. At the end of the meeting, the parents told their visitors, “Okay.
    We’ll keep the programme. But you must go back and tell the people in Manila
    to be sure that they help our children to build a strong foundation and a good
    bridge!”

    English ang e tudlo unta.. then mangutana sa estudyante kung kasabot bah... kung wala,diha na unta mu sulod ang native tongue... mao nay sakto...

    I like the idea of mother tongue based curriculum kay mas dali masabtan unta ang leksyon like problem solving sa math. I experienced this first hand kay ang mga bata dili gyud kasabot pasagdahan mobasa unya mo answer ra ug ilaha sa English nga problem. Pero if imung e bisaya, maka hibaw na sila unsay buhaton. And sa test dapat bisaya gyud ang test paper para masabtan nila. Ang ubang countries nga achiever sa Science and Math nila are using their own language in teaching ug sa ilang test materials.

    But sadly, DEPED took mother tongue based to the extremes. Kinahanglan pa tun-an ang mother tongue. BTW MTB is a different subject other than English, so maglisod gyud ang bata kay daghan kaayong laglom nga bisaya bisan ang teacher wala pa kagamit or kadungog man lang.

    Agree ko nga dapat in dialect gyud dapat ang medium ug ang test materials if gusto nato musaka ang ranking nato Globally sa test in Science and Math but dili pud unta himuong subject. Most of my colleague in present ug pag college namu maglisod gyud ug adapt kay wala man mi tudlui ug bisaya, we learned to speak it naturally..

    That clearly defeats the purpose because its supposed to be for global competitiveness.. if the additional 2 years will be costly for the average Filipinos, then there should be quality instead of an empty promise of globalization..bisaya ra diay gihapon..tsk tsk

    I think sayop imong concept sa global competitiveness. Global competitiveness doesnt necessarily relate to working abroad
    2nd, whats the best way to interpret the lessons, ideas, cultures(local), the native tongue of course.
    3rd, whats the best way to relate things / events(local) to a child? In english? Like the sinulog, bathala, stop nino, jose rizal..etc?
    And so on and so forth..

    Kuyawa gud anang native tounge ang math sa exam.

    For me, mas nindot man jud if bata pa ma-train na sa english. Kay mas dali baya makatuon ug language ang mga bata. Kay ang native tongue dali lang man kaayo makatun-an kay mao gud imo madunggan pirmi. Pero ang english if dako na ka mas lisod na maka-learn.

    Pipila ra intawn ang gagamit ug laglom/lawom kaayo nga binisaya. Unsaon tong dili bisaya pero naa sa Cebu? or Bisaya nga bata nga naa sa Pampanga?

    Mas masabtan ba gyud kung native tongue ang libro ug ang exam? ga lisud ba gyud ta ug sabot sa lesson sa math ka ininglis?

    para nako ok ra ug literature related o history ang binisay-on.. pero wala pa man siguro ana ang kindergarten.

    Maypa mag tudlo sila ug formal lesson sa binisaya kung unsa ang saktong pag sulat ug pag sulti. Pero sa higher level na.
    Pero ge lang.. dali ra kaau ta maanad mga pinoy. Naanad ra gani dayon ta sa PDAF ug DAP. Mura na ug wala karon.

    shock kaayo ko karon kay gikan ko ganina sa pta meeting sa akong mga pag umangkon sa public school.. bisaya na diay ilang gitun an from grade 1 to grade 3 dayon usa pa mag english sa grade 4.. sa pagbasa pod kay sa bisaya sila mu base.. laina ba oi.. ingon ani pod sa private schools o sa public ra?
