truth and knowledge is universal... if it can be proven through the science that is available now, then it is the accepted truth. the church denied for years that planets revolved around the sun and adamantly said the earth was the center of the universe because god "said so". religion relies on archaic dogma and on blind faith, no proof whatsoever. that is the biggest difference. and this why believers will make excuses for religions flaws. which is what you are doing now.

blindly following is what religion demands it believers to do, science offers you an explanation. if somehow down the road that explanation is proven wrong by newer evidence through science then it is corrected. religion will rarely ever admit what they are teaching is wrong or is not any more applicable at the present time.
