The secret to being successful is having grit.

It is being able to persevere despite of setbacks. If a person needs prayers to keep him going so be it, if he doesn't need to pray but rather delve in charity or other forms of humanitarian works so be it. All a person needs to do to keep himself going in spite of the odds is to connect with his community, whatever form it is.

To single out prayer as a sole way of describing coping mechanisms is just crude.
