A very good example is Alvin Patrimonio, yes you guessed it right, the cornerstone and face of the Purefoods PBA franchise. He's probably the best power forward Philippine basketball ever had. But during the last 3 years of his career he changed his playing position from #4 spot to the #3 spot even if he was still very effective at that #4 spot. Why? bcoz of how the PBA league and its players have evolved. That is what Kerby Raymundo and other 6'6" players are trying to do and what teams are also trying to emphasize. I've never heard of a guard moving to the forward spot ever since coz it's a disadvantage, but I've seen a lot of forwards moving to guard positions coz height advantage is a must in basketball. That's why it's more sensible for Kerby to take the #3 spot than James Yap.
maybe then they should not have let go of Don Camaso because he was a 6-7 natural 3 that has a good outside shot, excellent leaping ability, agility and quickness for a big man and once trained in the US..while it is logical to move Kerby to 3 in many instances, I dont see that happening this season, not unless they will bring in bigger guys that can relieve him of his duties at the post

But then maybe Don Camaso didn't live up to the expectation of Purefoods' management as an effective #3 spot player. Come to think of it, James Yap is very effective at the #2 spot and often has mismatches favoring him at that position so I don't think he'll play the small forward spot this coming season either, plus he's the only designated "pure shooter" Purefoods has.

James is more than just a pure shooter, he is also a good slasher and I still expect him to play some 3 especially against Coke which is a small team

Yeah James Yap is more than just a pure shooter, but he's the most reliable and effective "shooter" or #2 spot in Purefoods lineup so he'll play that role for 48 basketball minutes.

nah, maybe most of the 48 minutes but not all of it..of course he will play 3 when the need calls for Purefoods to play small and quick..

There will be advantages if James Yap will be moved to the 3 spot. It will make Purefoods a lot faster and quicker, though at the expense of some height.

Paul Artadi + Roger Yap/Peter June Simon + James Yap all together with Marc Pingris and Kerby Raymundo.
