There were some Filipinos who were trying to toy with this idea even before pa, but then again, in this basketball-crazy country, we dont just accept anybody as Filipino, it has to be earned like Douthit did. One must notice how there are still Filipinos who are not comfortable with Blatche wearing a Philippines jersey. It takes time and must be earned. As to Qatar, if the rules permit them to do that then nothing we can do about it.

Lack of size is not an excuse. We have the likes of Junemar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter. Before, we had EJ Feihl. Filipinos can be big as well. Kulang lang gyud sa training and exposure. Maybe increasing PBA's standards would help by bringing in foreign players to play, not just as imports. Other countries are doing it and that is why they have improved tremendously. What Gilas has done is a good start and if mocontinue ni, our FIBA rankings will increase and as a whole, the thought of the Philippines becoming a consistent dominant force in basketball won't be far off. Genetics could be a factor but Europeans and even some Asians could teach us a lesson. Genetics is not an excuse in basketball. What we lack in genetics can be made up in hard and consistent work.
