After a 112-69 win over Venezuela in FIBA America opening, USA coach Mike Krzyzewski was all praises for Bryant. "He really wants to play defense and really wants to play defense," said Krzyzewski of Bryant.

Even Venezuela point guard Greivis Vasquez, a sophomore at Maryland, was challenged even for a simple entry pass. "I don't know how to explain it," said Vasquez after the game. "That was amazing."

"I grew up watching the NBA. I was in College Park, watching his highlights. All of a sudden, he was guarding me like it was the last game of his life. . . . I'm 20 years old. . . . It was tough. I'm not going to lie to you guys. I lost the ball on a couple of possessions. . . . But tomorrow's another day. It's all good. I'm glad it happened."

One of Bryant's defensive highlights was during Venezuela's second possession where he dived for the ball and made a steal which led to a USA fastbreak. This is the kind of intensity USA lacks during their previous dismal performances in FIBA tournaments.

LeBron still has a long way to go. The thing that keeps LeBron above everybody else is his strength, speed and height advantage over the other guards. One thing James has still to develop is his heart. He's got a big heart and the will to win, but other players simply got a bigger heart than him. But I do believe it would come with age.

Yah i agree but not with his defense...Defense is attitude and eagerness not to allow or hinder ur opponent from scoring, or making a play...i doubt if he'll ever learn that...Kobe had this attitude when he came to the league, he never got the same exposure compared to LBJ..I'm wondering if Kobe played for Charlotte...tsk tsk tsk...

well if what he has right now, his basketball skills...he should expect great expectations from us...he is a physical specimen, if he tries to polish his defensive skillset then there's no doubt, a mere a year or two he will be the king we dearly hail to be...

LeBron actually plays decent defense, but it's just being overshadowed by his offensive game. Though he's not as good as Kobe Bryant or Shawn Marion, James can still give opposing teams offense some tough time.
