    Default Re: MERGED: Manila Standard's Malu Fernandez unpleasant article of OFW's

    “I forget that the hub was in Dubai and the majority of OFWs were stationed there. The duty-free shop was overrun with Filipino workers selling cell phones and perfume. I wanted to slash my wrist at the thought of being trapped in a plane with all of them,” she wrote.

    “I had resigned myself to being trapped like a sardine with all these OFWs smelling of AXE and Charlie cologne while my Jo Malone evaporated into thin air,” Fernandez said.

    reality check. the irresponsible writer has resigned and apologized publicly. if there's anyone who needs to better herself/himself, it's Malu Fernandez. now she's a good example to those who don't get it yet.

    in seeking the truth, you read between the lines. you don't limit yourself to "axe cologne" and "noisy kababayans on the plane". oh yes, you see and feel BIGOTRY and CLASSISM with an article.

    i would say the "jaw flapping" was all worth it.

    whatever u say

    mam velvett please dont waste ur time getting upset with my entry--it is not worth it. i am not sure what u are talking about, but like i wrote "it takes a while for govt tasks to get done--based on my experience"--that is what i agree with what she wrote, again like i said i only reacted to the one article that was written before this thread was merged. i have to pick and choose my battles for there will always be people like that. now since i have read about the OFW part, my reaction is just "oh well, she is just some rich snob, she should have gotten the business class ticket, good for her and i am glad she got stuck with some situation she hated, serves her right for acting like the OFWs are beneath her". mostly i dig deeper and ask (this is the part the makes me mad and give me a stroke sometimes, hehehe!!)--should we not get mad to all the corruption that sent me and thousands of filipinos abroad, that crams the planes that this writer hated? that is how i look at things (please note the" I") and that how i analyze things---you see miss velvett, I am one of those people she finds repulsive--I cram the plane!! but i will not give her the benefit of my anger, instead i will pick the the things she wrote that will better me. as for her resignation, i am sure thousands will be happy--i am--but did it better the "more important issues she talked about?--like the govt services being slow for example"-- nope. We're back to square one, heheheh, peace

    @bisaya70:

    By reading between the lines, we all know what she meant, it's clear. What causes a lot of commotion around here is on how the way she presented it. There's a lot of articles circulating about the dismal situation the Philippines are in now, the corruption in the governement, or even the lazy habits Pinoys have, yet most of it were written and presented in a "professional" or should we say, not in a degrading manner. What Malu Fernandez wrote was demeaning, she's says it's humor, everybody says it's an insult. Now is that right? Her end won't justify her means. No matter how she justifies, what is done is done, she never took into consideration the middle classed Pinoys and OFWs. As what I have been posting around here, as a writer, she should know the line between an insult and a humor. Clearly what she wrote was not funny.

    Whatever her purpose was for the article, it's overlooked because of her approach.

    why are u talking about our gov'ts flaws? we know that already.. what made us furious is how she presented her articles... she was nothing short of a bully... the way she wrote it whether there was a tinge of truth or not was not the point....
