@Tamblot, thanks for the melodramatic but quite graceful reply
One thing that I will not do is deprive my boy of a higher education nor force him to take a path that he is not willing to take. It may be disappointing and painful (to some degree) for a parent to not see his child without a college degree but I don't advocate following society's norms. In fact, it is fun to deviate from the norm especially living in the Philippines where relatives do nothing but gossip. I simply love to tease these hypocrites and get into their nerves!
I am very well aware of successful people who have not completed a college education, not just Zuckerberg and Gates but people close to me like my husband and nephew. However, money is not everything to some -- my husband deeply regretted that his dream was put in shambles by the same government who asked him to serve the country for freedom and now is endangering the freedom of the citizens of this great land.
You are right about the Filipinos' colonial mentality of which my son is unaware of and I'd like it to remain so for the simple reason that I want him to treat everyone as his equal.
Kasagaron karon. Papers and educational attainment ang pangita.on sa mga companies. I know it sucks pero that's the truth. Give your boy a time if he's not mature enough to see how important education really is. Show him the truth that life is tough if you don't have proper degree. Never try to compare Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs r.i.p, etc... because sila na, they have their own way of making things work. We make our own success carve in uncertainty. Success is not about following role-models, it's about passion, education and belief.
