Thailand’s army chief announced a military takeover of the government on Thursday, saying the coup was necessary to restore stability and order after six months of political deadlock and turmoil.

Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha said in a statement broadcast on national television that the commission which imposed martial law on Tuesday would now take control of the country’s administration.

“It is necessary for the Peace and Order Maintaining Command which includes army, navy, armed forces and police to take control of governing the country,” Gen. Prayuth said, flanked by the heads of the armed forces.

The pivotal development came after Gen. Prayuth declared martial law on Tuesday in what he called a bid to resolve the crisis and a day later summoned the country’s rival political leaders for face-to-face talks. Two days of talks failed to break the impasse.

Martial Law is not really that bad, its just that we Filipinos had a bad experience about it or been sensualized as evil by its distactors, therefore we've been distracted and lead to more corrupt government form as of today. According to WIKI:

"Martial law is the imposition of military power over designated regions on an emergency basis.

Martial law is usually imposed on a temporary basis when the civilian government or civilian authorities fail to function effectively (e.g., maintain order and security, or provide essential services). In full-scale martial law, the highest-ranking military officer would take over, or be installed, as the military governor or as head of the government, thus removing all power from the previous executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government."

Imagine how much of Power Thirsty Filipino Leader has been declined to practice its power under Martial Law, the whole lot. That is why they hated it.

Are common citizen safe? As long as the Military is not corrupt, wanted to assume power as much as the politicians, and as long as the citizen does not show aggressive defiance(through political propaganda) against it, citizens are safe.

We have Martial Law for more than a Decade, I think its No longer counted as "Not Really Bad"
