Yes, it's a modified map of WARCRAFT 3 to be exact, NOT World Of Warcraft(w/c is the MMORPG version of WarCraft)
We derive the name DotA by WC3's modified maps. If we call it "Let's play Warcraft", then it would not be specified to the game itself. By saying that, it would include playing LADDERS(w/c is the Building Map for WC'3, meaning, you won't control only 1(one) hero but the colony itself just like StarCraft.

Perfect. So basically WARCRAFT is technically different from WORLD OF WARCRAFT if I was able to catch your drift. As far as my knowledge is concern, DotA has 24(?) levels while World of Warcraft has more or less 75 levels. WoW is indeed for hardcore gamers then.

I am the most pathetic noob in DotA. Once my character attacks, I got too focused of smashing the opponents without noticing my life line. Dead upon the first attack. Boo hoo. Baah! So much for a delusional megalomaniac x_x

Reminds me, in DotA, you have a main character and pawns (the colony). How about in WoW?
