he's the guitarist from sonic youth. idol na ni cobain.hehe. not really. sonic youth is one of kurt's favorite bands to open for or play with them. known for his guitar effects, great composition and not for fast fingers. even kurt is really good with guitar effects. listen to in utero album. i find in utero better than nevermind musically, by the way. but before kurt and hendrix, i believe there was a guy named pete townshend from the who. who is the who? they made that csi soundtrack "who are you?" and the loudest band in the 60's perhaps. but not the heaviest. townshend is the guy who popularized guitar bashing in the 60's. yes that kurt cobain thing. other songs by the who are behind blue eyes(revived by limp bizkit) & teenage wasteland. before that operatic queen and emo-opera-punk by MyChem, there was the who's quadrophenia

jimmy page gihapon is the best. if not for tom morello's style then i guess all the best riffs have been made by jimmy page already.

I think this thread's title should be changed to

BEST GUITARIST IN ROCK.

Obviously, because every single guy mentioned on the list is a rock musician, completely ignoring Classical, Jazz, and Flamenco.

For my money, I think the genre with the best technical guitarists is flamenco.
