    Penalosa KOs Gonzalez

In a stunner, Gerry Penalosa (52-6-2, 35 KOs) dethroned WBO bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (34-6, 29 KOs) by spectacular seventh round knockout. Behind on the scorecards, Penalosa suddenly dropped Gonzalez for the count with a single left hook to the body at 2:45. The 35-year-old Penalosa, who won the WBC super flyweight title more than ten years ago, is a world champion again as the Filipino sweep continues at the Arco Arena in Sacramento.

    Philippines seizes World Cup!
    Pinoys sweep first four bouts
By David Robinett and Robert Hough at ringside
The 2007 Boxing World Cup belongs to the Philippines! Z Gorres (27-2-1, 15 KOs) captured the IBF Junior Bantamweight Intercontinental Title with an eighth round TKO of former junior flyweight champion Eric Ortiz (26-7-1, 17 KOs). The fight was stopped by the referee on the advice of the ring doctor at 2:15 of round eight after Ortiz suffered a large cut over his left eye. With the win, the Philippines has captured the first four of the six World Cup bouts, clinching the Cup.
Looks like it may not be Mexico's night as the Philippines takes a 3-0 lead with a third round TKO. Unbeaten 18-year-old prospect A.J. Banal (14-0-1, 11 KOs) knocked down Jorge Cardenas (9-4-3, 6 KOs) early in round three, and while going down Cardenas twisted his right ankle. Cardenas tried to rise, but the referee jumped in when it was clear Cardenas could not put any weight on the ankle. Time of the stoppage was 0:28.The crowd at Arco Arena is rocking as the Philippines jump out to a 2-0 lead in the 2007 Boxing World Cup with a surprising unanimous decision win. In another all-action bout, junior featherweight Michael Domingo (32-14-2, 12 KOs) defeated previously unbeaten Miguel "Mickey Mouse" Roman (21-1, 15 KOs) in a six-round bout, 60-54 on all three cards in a fight that looked like it could go either way.The Philippines takes the opening bout from the 2007 Boxing World Cup, with Diosdado Gabi (30-3-1, 21 KOs) winning an exciting unanimous decision over Jose Angel Beranza (30-10-2, 25 KOs) in an eight-round junior bantamweight bout. Scores from all three judges were 80-72 in a bout that was more competitive than the final result.
