I just want to share my setup guide Wireless/LAN Repeater Bridge for Linksys WRT54GL if you want to extend your wireless and LAN signal.
Note: If you know the Basic, Router Firmware setup skip to 2nd Post.

A PC to setup your routers
A DSL Line

[Basic Setup]
Setup for your DSL Line.
- Plug your LAN cable from your PC to your DSL Router.
Windows 7
- Click Start, then Control Panel, look for
network and sharing
- click on
Change adapter settings.
- Right-click on your local adapter and select Properties.
- In the Local Area Connection Properties window highlight
Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click the Properties button.
- Now select the
Use the following IP address
- and enter in this IP 192.168.1.33
- then Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- leave the Default gateway and DNS empty
- Click OKand close out of the Local Area Connections Properties window.
Windows XP
- Click
Start, then
Control Panel
- double click
Network Connections
- Right-click on your Local Area Connection
- Select Properties
- Highlight
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.
- Now change the IP to 192.168.1.33
- then Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- leave Default Gateway, and DNS Server Addresses blank. When you’re finished click OK.
- You will need to close out of the Network Connection Properties screen before the changes go into effect.
[DSL Router Setup]
example my Globe Broadband Tattoo
PROLiNK H5201 DSL Router, ako ra nya e post ang sa PLDT inig uli nako sa pikas house.
- Open your web browser and type this address 192.168.1.1
- Click Adavance
- Click LAN Setup
- Login username: user then password: user
- Click LAN IP Address
- set this IP Address 192.168.1.3
- click Apply Changes
- click Save
[Setup Linksys WRT54GL Primary Router]
- Unplug your LAN cable from your DSL Router and Plug it to your Linksys WRT54GL router.
- We need to reset your router to factory default.
- Open your web browser and type this address 192.168.1.1 or the address you assign to your router.
- From the web interface, go to Administration -> Firmware Upgrade -> Choose the
DDWRT file that you downloaded above -> Click on Upgrade.
- Once the upgrade started, do not click on any other link on the web interface. Just wait until the upgrade is completed.
- Once you’ve completed the upgrade, verify your new firmware version to make sure the upgrade was successfully completed.
- After you update your firmware, click Setup then Basic Setup
- Assigned Wan Port as Switch was check so that you can use it as LAN port.
- Save
- Click Wireless
- Name your own SSID
- Save and Apply Settings
- Click Wireless Security
- Security Mode should WPA2 Personal and AES on WPA Algorithms
- WPA Shared Key your choice
- Save
- Click Security
- Save and Apply Settings
- Unplug your LAN Cable from PC to LAN Cable.
[Progress Testing]
- Turn off all routers DSL Router and Wireless Router.
- Plug the LAN cable from your DSL Router to Wireless Router on any port
- Plug the LAN cable from your Wireless Router to your PC
- Turn on Wireless Router first.
- Turn on DSL Router wait for Power, ADSL, Internet, LAN, all lights up.
- Set your PC Static LAN IP to automatic.
[Windows 7]

- Set your PC Static LAN IP in the
Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
- back to Obtain an IP Automatically
- and also Obtain DNS server address automatically
- press OK, and close all.
- then plug your LAN Cable from PC to your Wireless Router.
- and test browsing the internet.
[Windows XP]
- Set your PC Static LAN IP in the
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
- back to Obtain an IP Automatically
- and also Obtain DNS server address automatically
- press OK, and close all.
- then plug your LAN Cable from PC to your Wireless Router.
- and test browsing the internet.
If everything is OK then Proceed to next guide, else review from the top.
- Your Primary router is always on, while we continue to setup the 2nd Wireless for Repeater Bridge.
[Setup Wireless Repeater Bridge]
- Unplug your LAN Cable from the Primary Router that you have tested previously.
- Then set it again with the static IP 192.168.1.33
- If the firmware of this 2nd Linksys WRT54GL router is stock, just update it same as your primary router.
- Since you know most of the steps from the previous guide above, lets jump start.
- Just follow the settings from this pictures.
- Save
I will try to explain this so that you can get the idea.
In your Wireless Physical Interface this is the settings to
Communicate to your Primary Router.
So you need to input the exact details from your Primary Router.
Here you you need to add a Virtual Interfaces, this is the new SSID
to be broadcasted to your clients, you can name it anything you like.
- Save
Here is the most critical part, everything should match in order for the both router to
communicate each other, and should use WPA2 Personal and AES settings, and the key
should match.
- Save
- Save
- Click on Status
- Click on Wireless
- Scroll down and click on Site Survey
- While your Primary Router is power on and it is broadcasting the Access Point, click Join.
- Now set your PC Lan IP and DNS to automatic.
- Wait for the LAN connection to obtain the new IP
- Then test the internet connection with your browser.
