technically, if you are asked to stay by your superior you are not dismissed. I think the problem stems from people not understanding the parameters of a "dismissal". If there was a detailed transcript about his "lie", that points to him lying beyond that, then I beg to differ. But it's absolutely stupid, military or civilian to ostracize someone that severely for something like "dismissed them" vs "dismissed me". If they are going to have to make disciplinary actions do so, but actually getting kicked out? That's not instilling discipline or honor code--that's just stark overreaction. Verdict: Cudia was not lying, the officers/commandant who handled this matter needs to learn English semantics/lexicon (if the dialogue was in English)

The lie there was he was not dismissed late. Whether what's on his mind neither his intention was not to lie but what he said was still a lie. Yes, I agree that the end result of both scenarios provided are the same but in reality what was given more weight was that he lied, a grave offense, period. Choice of words could never been an excuse because cadets MUST stand on the rule under PMA premises.

new cadets are indoctrinated with honor code in their entire plebehood to make sure that all cadets have only one/ common understanding of the code and that technicalities to the code are avoided and gray areas cleared. the honor code and the honor system being memorized every night to make sure that every new cadet memorize it by heart. cadet cudia is number 2 in class he should know better. at the end of a class room instruction, the instructor says class dismiss which signals the class marcher to command class rise and salutes the instructor sir permission for the class to leave and the instructor acknowledges the salute and replies carry on, that is the reckoning of the class being dismissed from the class room instruction. a buzzer also sounds in the entire academic building which signals everyone that its time to dismiss the classroom instruction. so you can clearly distinguish if you were dismissed late or not by the instructor, in cadet cudia's case they were dismissed on time and were asked to stay further. after every period the cadets have 15 minutes to march up to their next class room instruction, an ample time even if you were asked to stay for some time, thats why the entire section was awarded punishment even if the had reasoned out, i did commit the offense, i did not intend to violate the offense, because we were asked to stay further after we were dismissed. it does not justify being late. cadet cudias explanation was different, he claimed they were dismissed by their instructor late. kung sa PMA pa na term Quibbling, takot tanggapin ang offense, takot malasin he violated the code...

Except he was. He was asked to stay behind by the teacher, hence by definition he was not yet dismissed. So as far as Cudia was concerned, he was dismissed late by the teacher. Like I said, the only difference here is semantics.

But if you want to talk about the PMA Honor Code, get this: I just saw on the news that Cudia raised a complaint against the Honor Comittee because they violated the Honor Code. Apparently one member of the comittee voted Not Guilty for Cudia, which would have been enough to allow Cudia to remain (the vote needs to be unanimous to be declared guilty). However, the Honor Comittee apparently manipulated the results and forced the guilty verdict to go through.

Talk about hypocrisy.

^^^nice explanation, though that is just a tidbit about the code. Though, I'm no PMAer, I am aware of their obscure conventions as in most military institutions. Now, what I do not understand though is the dismissal part, though there are a lot of things we truly do not know about what happened, is it really a lie or just a mere misinterpretation? And if it is a misinterpretation, why does it warrant a dismissal? (If dismissal is the sanction for lying according to the code, then fair enough). Does the academy make a distinction between the two?

I'm no stranger to military institutions and understand group ethos, but with regards to the PMA, I'm a pleb. This is an interesting story for people outside of PMA.

Not to bash on our PMA-ers (Most of them have my full respect), but I'm baffled as to why some/many/a significant number of PMA graduates get tangled with graft and corruption when they are apparently indoctrinated into such a strict honor code.
