P990 Finally Here: Any problems? Post here...

Well if you are happy with the way your phone is functioning right now and dont have any problems with it then keep it that way it is. But if you are experiencing bugs, errors, memory dumps, hangups, restarts that are intollerable, then update it.

so far wla pa dyd nko na update ako firmware since i bought it mga 1 month na kapin,

ang akng problems na encounter is sa iya focus sa iya cam w/c will be solve naman pag e update ang firmware

restart problems panagsa ra dyd kaayo in a week tingali usahay kasa or kaduha ba ... my phone firmware is R9EC001 pa ..

nahan ta ko e update through SEUS pero hadlok ko basig ma dead nya ko P990i pag update... will update this mid august sa Semicon w/c

bayad ko 500 pesos for it... better be safe

guys since taas2 naman ni nga thread pde ninyo e summarize ang p990i? ang ups and downs nya? bugs? crashes? or unsa bah ma expek? kay nahan judko ani nga phone bt daghan ingun daghan daw bugs mu crash lng daw kalit even wla gamay ra programs g-open etc.. mao na need ur help karon kung unsa jud. kay free unta sa smart loyalty btaw. mao na i need to know the phones ups n downs jud asap kay libog ko if p990i or nokiae61i ba akong e pili hehe

P990i = a fine phone with PDA features, unfortunately the OS on which the system runs on sucks. sucks really bad. UIQ3 is an abomination. They know this. The main issue is memory leaks. Meaning your remainin ram will still be consumed over time even if you are just leaving your phone alone... and when the ram gets too low, the phone restarts with " the phone restarted to improve performance ". the new version of UIQ should be good since it addresses the memory leaks by rewriting the OS with a different structure for executing applications. It will be more harder to develop software with the upcoming UIQ 3.1 up... or was it UIQ3.5 up... UIQ3 was designed so that it will be easier for developers to make 3rd party software.

The P1i still uses the UIQ3 but with a larger ram ... still this doesnt solve the memory leaks i think. What it can do is only lengthen the time for it to consume enough ram before the phone restarts. IMO

bai comic.. when man diay mo restart ang imong phone to that message "the phone restarted to improve performance"? Did you encounter this message first time you bought the phone and when you havent pa upgraded the s/w jud?

You said that it will consume the memory(ram) overtime while the phone is untouch.. do you mean that if I leave the phone still, no user intervention at all... mo restart lang jud ang phone ug iyaha?..

yup mo restart lang na iyaha at least once a week. that's what most users say over at esato. that's why it's called a memory leak. sa akong phone katong r5 pa kasulay dayon ko og restart. then after nako na upgrade mo hang siya if you leave it alone. mo hang as in working pa ang pda functions pero mo gamit na gani ka sa phone functions like sms, calls, mo tikig na dayon ang UI.... di man ko nahan mag antos. then under warranty paman akong phone so ako nalang gi dala sa SE ayala. then ingnan nako cla sa symptoms. ilang gi reformat then master reset then reflash. pariha ra gihapon so akong ingon nila nga ipatan-aw sa manila if di nila ma solve pa ilisan nako og lain na phone. hehehe. gamit pud ang warranty oi. pero mau lagi mas mahal. pero at least secure.

I just called them up today and they said my unit is ready for pick-up. yeah right I'm betting my life savings that it wont be long before I return back the unit complaining about the same problems. My advice keep the P990i mainly for its great PDA functions. Buy a series 60 as a main phone. Get the N95.
