while I definitely agree that Ilokano and Cebuano are languages in itself, some of the examples cited could be variants of one language. Take for example the case between Waray-waray, Bikolano, Cebuano, Hiligaynon and Tagalog..the similarities among these tongues are aplenty, and if not for Spanish influence could actually be very, very similar to each other. In an article by Jed Pesnar, he hypothesized that these tongues(or languages) may be remnants of the great Malayo-Polynesian nation, Sri Vishaya.
