i agree... sassy girl made such a great impact among asians coz the lead character wasn't really a typical asian girl... she was feisty, happy-go-lucky and quite boyish.. her character was very interesting to us coz it's not that common in asian countries... whereas, here in the US, you see a lot of those kinds of girls everywhere so the westerns might not be able to appreciate her that much IMO.. but we'll just wait and see, maybe they will make some variations in order to cope up with the cultural differences...Originally Posted by bimbim

i guess i'm the only girl out there who hated the movie... i thought it was predictable, corny at times and overly mushy. I'd have to say that there was some funny scenes but overall it was superficial, just something you watch when you don't want to think. It was a formula movie. but then again I don't watch mushy films... although i loved "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind"(that was a smart love story) and "Somewhere in Time".
Usually korean mushy movies don't translate well Hollywood-ized (the horror films do) look at "The Lake House" it was utterly condemned by critics. "The plot is a little too convoluted.", I believe was the exact words they used. The problem with most (not all) asian lovestories is that there's often a cutesy, childish element that doesn't translate well to... say the mainstream american audience. The'd have to tweak the story a bit in order to be relatable. Whilst most of us found the girl's quirks to be endearing, to a different audience she might as well be the Jar Jar Binks of female protagonist. So it could go either way, that's why they have test audiences.
There are a few asian films out there that dare to be a little different, that dare not to be too cutesy. I heard "Last Life in the Universe" is good so i'm deffinately watching that.
@jasonrey dude, no need to blow your top over me not liking the movie... i was merely stating my opinion because... last time I checked this was still a free board…
nag ask lang ko coz i haven't often met people who saw the movie and didn't like it.Originally Posted by rockart9
