ang police unta, dili mag-tapok para mag-storya...they should be seen in at least every 2kms apart...

no matter what you suggest, criminals will always find a way.

    bring out the vigilantes!!!

IMHO, I don't think these criminals are using registered guns - why would they? Ayaw ko ingna dili sila hadlok mopatay pero hadlok sila gamit unregistered nga pusil? Ergo, there's no need to make the gun laws more stringent at all.

Agree ko nga there should be "police presence" in corners, etc. Police presence lang kay dili man gyud pwedi police gyud. Pwedi ra mga tanod. Importante ani kay equipped with radios ni sila para sayon ra coordinate.

Another suggestion of mine instead of putting police presence, put cameras instead. Although this is more expensive at first, I'm sure we have more than enough to implement this. If we have billions being robbed from us, pretty sure we can afford this.

Another problem? Political will. This is something that'll prevent our "public servants" from doing what's best for its constituents and with that, all the ideas in the world is useless.

Are you so blind that you don't realize this is already the post-vigilante era? This is already the outcome of your "bring out the vigilantes" idea.

People will always have a reason to kill. I think our best option is to invest in better forensics and penalize those who committed the crime. I think the best way to prevent a crime, is to make it hard to commit in the first place. Even if you go the most developed countries, there will always be people with a reason to kill. By making the tools (guns) hard to acquire and with the police having good turn-over rates when it comes to (crimes done vs crime solved), perpetrators will have 2nd thoughts in doing such an act.
Yes I agree that a firearm is a tool, and depending on who wields it, can be used either for good or bad intentions. Canada has strict gun laws and last time I checked, they do not totally ban guns, they have regulations governing its ownership and use. Just like in our setting, if you read the laws to the letter, it is very hard to legally acquire a licensed firearm here and expensive too. Here is our newly enacted firearms law, http://www.gov.ph/2013/05/29/republic-act-no-10591/. Check out the requirements for ownership and also the penalties. See if it is not strict enough to begin with.

Guns in the hands of responsible people makes life hard for the criminals. Switzerland for example where almost everybody is armed can be an example, so does the pro gun states in the US of A, where statistically speaking, crime rates are lower compared to ban states...

    Just a thought...

Hey, the motorcycle is also a tool to commit crime right?

    Happy New Year!

I think we should adopt this...

Switzerland has the lowest crime rate in the world, because the people are armed, basic military is mandatory for men,and after wards they are required to keep their weapon at home.A crook will think twice about breaking into houses knowing this, people who think the world should get rid rid of guns should think again.

I'm not saying we should ban firearms outright. All I am saying is strict gun laws and implementing it. It is not hard to buy a licensed gun to be honest. All you need is money. I've asked this in gun stores before. Sila nman daw bahala sa tanan. In most cases, the unlicensed firearms are the ones that are causing the problems. I think by finding out where this comes from and cutting its root, we can minimize the number of unlicensed guns in the country. One of the biggest suppliers is the military and PNP. I've been offered not once, but thrice to buy an unlicensed gun from them.. one Colt 1911 .45, Lorenco 9mm, and from our dearest military, H&K MP5 with tactical scope (i think this came from balikatan since the crate has a U.S. logo).

I think it is also about time we have a criminal database and proper forensics.
