    magpagka samok nang virusa na... what i did to mine when my pc was infected(dont ever use ANTI-VIR, inutil ni iya scanning engine maski updated pa), replace my AV with Kaspersky Free version, update it.. went into safe mode anddo a whole harddisk scan.

    da, tangtang lagi.. heheheh

    pero ug way daghan importante files, mas maayo reformat nalang and get a good virusscanner(always update definitions) next time...

    take off your harddrive scan it on with a another computer with updated spyware and anti virus application

    Is Brontok.exe the same with about.brontok.a it's an HTML file? Wat's the worst case damage does this virus do? Can AVG detect this virus?

    here are the fixes, my sis' pc got hit by this... most likely through email or infected cd/disks
    what it practically do is create an exe file of _every_ folder it finds... and replicating itself, it also disables the option tab in the tools of your folder, one more... it freaking disables the regedit...
    so you have to download a fix patch from symantec...

    please locate the ff. files and delete them..

    If i find this file and delete it on my system does it mean my computer is already safe from this virus? and it wont infect it again?

    steps for removing brontok virus . . .
    Caution: Administrative rights required.

    1. Click download link next to virus name
    2. Save the file locally on your computer.
    3. Close all Windows applications.
    4. Turn off antivirus monitor, if enabled.

    Important: You may also run the Remover with your AVK Monitor running. Use /G switch for remover.exe file in Windows system console.
    If you run remover.exe under Windows Me or XP, please turn off the System Restore option. Details abort turning off the System Restore option:

    "Antivirus Tools Cannot Clean Infected Files in the _Restore Folder"

    6. Find the downloaded remover.exe file.
    7. Double click the file to run remover.
    8. Click "Scan" to start scan and remove the virus.
    9. Update your antivirus and run system scan.

    G DATA Remover destroys virus by removing the virus files and system activity. It handles about 100 most dangerous threats, that can destabilize your computer

    Command line switches
    /G - Don't check the AVK Monitor status (optional)
    /R - Check primary registry area only (optional - not recomended)
    /N - Scan mapped network drives (optional)
    /I - Do NOT remove Internet temporary files and Cookies (optional)
    /D - Delete specified file, path required (optiona)

    Using switches

    Default file download folder is i.e.: "c:\downloaded"

    1. Click Start Menu > Run.
    2. For Windows 95/98/Me type:

    command

    for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003

    cmd

    3. Click OK.
    4. In Windows console window type following commands pressing Enter each time:

    cd \
    cd downloaded
    remover.exe [/G] [/R] [/N] or remover.exe /D "file path in quotes"

    5. Enter exit to close window console.
