The E/3G/LTE signals drain battery faster than the WiFi based on my experience from using both Android and iOS (including the iPhone 5S).
We haven't reached the state wherein you could use your smartphone for days (literally) without draining its battery. Even the Galaxy Note 2 & 3 with a 3200 mAh battery capacities respectively last just over a day of heavy use. This is the downside of all those features packed into every smartphone. Hence, the term "Smartphone".
When you get used to using a smartphone, you learn how to schedule your charges, estimate battery life depending on usage and have a daily routine. This is the "point" and the very reasons why 1/6 of the Earth's population use one. At present, unless you have a battery capacity equivalent to an automobile, you should be able to get about 5-8 hours of iPhone 5S actual usage (with 22-28 hours of stand by activity).
