Actually, it looks like Leo Lastimosa is misinterpreting Phivolcs. A "new earthquake" doesn't necessarily mean it's not an aftershock since every aftershock is a new earthquake. Simply, aftershock == earthquake.

according to the Philvolcs website, the strongest of the series of seismic activity that we felt this morning at around 4:40 AM was classified as an aftershock of the Tuesday earthquake

naa na sad ni si Leo, maghimo-himo iyang conclusion without talking to an actual seismologist or Philvolcs staff. he did the same thing before sa kadtong kusog nga aftershock pag-Wednesday, naghimo-himo iyang balita

just FYI lang, i was monitoring Philvolcs ganina, when they first posted that 5.1 intensity sa ilang website (mga after 15 minutes sa pag-uyog), wala pa nila gi-classify as an "aftershock". bag-ohay lang ron nila gibutang ang classification nga "aftershock". i won't be surprised nga kaning latest nga seismic activity ganinang 5:30 AM will be classified later as an aftershock

having said that, like i said in my previous post, magsige pa na silag gather og data. it is entirely possible for any of those updates that they posted to change in details

so if i were you, you can speculate all you want but leave it up to the experts to interpret the data as opposed to some ASSUMPTIONISTANG journalist "kuno" to make such declarations

nitpicking na kaayo, pero, technically, any smaller quake that occurs after a major quake near the epicenter of said major quake is an aftershock. 5.1 < 7.1 @ ~10 ºN, ~124 ºE.

a smaller quake before a major quake is called (surprise, surprise) a foreshock.

this is still an aftershock, since epicenter kay around the same area..
as phivolcs said this aftershocks will still occur in one to two weeks..
