it's a waste of tax and public trust.

this is the proper time the PAG ASA | PhilVocs administrator can publicly rant to government's face that they can't securely give right information because they're equipment and funding castrated.

    PUBLICLY RANT.

and i'll support them publicly as well.
    asus kahawod nimong dako

they have already asked our government for support. they've actually said it on the news nga kulang sila sa tawo og gamit, unsa pa may gusto nimong buhaton nila? mag rally sila and LEAVE their jobs with no one to take care of it.

you're barking at the wrong tree. nganong dili man imong idol nga Presidente maoy imong tuktokon para ipa-improve ang serbisyo sa mga ahensiya sa gobyerno. it takes good leadership for that to happen and whether you like it or not, it also takes money to do so. it takes more money to provide more human resources. it takes more money to provide more equipment. the people in PAG-ASA and Philvolcs already know what they need and have already said what they need to this government. the question now is whether this government is willing to invest and give them what they need

FYI lang, usgs also had it sa Carmen before they updated it to a different location

and FYI sad, usgs will also sometimes correct their initial readings (like the magnitude and the location of the epicenter). readings are not necessarily and accurately real time, they get updated/corrected as more data will come in

when it comes to weather and earthquakes, there's no such thing as an instant accurate reading. that's why ARMCHAIR meteorologists and seismologists (ie mga tawo nga feeling experts kay tungod sa ilang Bachelor's degree in Google Search) need to stop ASSUMING that they know how to properly interpret the data that is posted from usgs as well as from weather forecasting websites

Earthquakes are catastrophic in nature. No one can predict that it is coming. There is no limit to the possible of magnitude. Even with all the latest measuring instruments and equipment (seismometers & tiltmeters) which even Japan had none in terms of measuring of its magnitude, date & time of occurrence. The mechanics of this is poorly misunderstood.
Just like an aftershock, it is still an earthquake that occurs after a previous earthquake, the main shock. An aftershock is in the same region of the main shock but always of a smaller magnitude, if an aftershock is larger than the main shock it is redesignated as the main shock and the original main shock is called the fore shack.

Many methods have been studied for predicting the time & place in which an earthquake will occur. Despite considerable research efforts by siesmologists, scientifically reproducible predictions cannot yet be made up to this time to a specific day, month & time.

Earthquake Warning Systems (EWS) have been developed that can provide notification of an earthquake even on a regional basis but sad to say nothing has come up effectively. They can only notice it if the earth's impact is felt.

So people calm down, please understand that it is not so easy to a record an event, a catastrophic one. They are doing their best.

Instead of arguing, blaming and pointing a finger, why won't we just discuss how safe and prepared are we and our loved ones when something happens again?

They did publicly ask for more funding. They have been asking it for many years -- and many presidential administrations -- now. It's gone nowhere because politicians are more interested in funding projects that will get them re-elected (ie. bridges, roads, buildings that they can attach their name to). It's a shame because PAGASA and PHIVOLCS are doing an amazing job with the resources that they do have. Have you heard of the news a few months back about how our science experts at PAGASA, PHIVOLCS and etc. are among the lowest paid of any country? That's part of the lack of proper government support. Because of that, so many of our scientists have chosen to take their talents elsewhere, and those that do work for the government usually don't stay for long, just like that PAGASA chief who quit recently so that he can work abroad. Do you know how much the head of PAGASA earns? Roughly P70,000/month. A bank branch manager can earn just as much! You may think that's large, but keep in mind that this is the director of a national scientific institution whose job it is to warn us of dangerous weather. Lives depend on his job, so you'd think the people would pay him better.

How many times do they need to say that they need more funding? They have been saying it for years and years, through private government channels and even through the media. And through it all, the government -- and the people -- have turned a deaf ear. The fact that you and many others don't even seem to remember their frequent complaints says much about how they are being ignored when there's no new typhoon/earthquake/flood to get the people's attention. When the story broke last year about PAGASA forecaster Jori Loiz sometimes being absent during the televised forecasts because he can't pay bus fare, did the people notice? All it got was a quick soundbite in the news, and then it was promptly forgotten. Do you know that the government is slashing PAGASA's budget for 2014? It must be pretty horrible having to work for either agency: it's like you've been given a stick and told to predict the weather, then get verbally abused by everyone when you don't have the resources to do your job properly. And on top of that, you're paid peanuts. Circus animals have more dignity.

I'm sorry if it seems I'm going off on you, but I needed to answer your rant with a rant of my own. I remember when our science agencies used to be one of the best -- if not the best -- in Asia. I remember their decline as each administration funded them less and less. The fact is, we shouldn't blame PAGASA or PHIVOLCS for the state they're in, but ourselves. Their job is thankless enough as it is.

Na mention na sa news ang Baclayon, Alburquerque, loay, Loboc, Carmen, Sagbayan, Danao, Marbujoc, Loon, Calape, Tubigon, Clarin, Indabangga, og Buenavista, Bohol. Kumusta man ang taga Cortes, Balilihan, Catigbian, Sikatuna , Corella, Sevilla, Bilar, Batuan, San Miguel, Dagohoy og Sierra Bullones, Bohol? Still within Bohol nga naa sa Jagna, Talibon, Ubay, Candijay kumusta mo diha? Tingog pud intawon mo para maapil mo sa tabang gikan sa atong goberno.
