The East Bohol fault line wasn't classified as active, perhaps because we've never had a big earthquake as far as anyone can remember. Now we know that nature doesn't not obey our classifications. What makes this dangerous for Cebu is that we have way too many old buildings and structures...even the new buildings/structures are probably not designed to withstand an intensity 7. Take, for example, the Ban-Tal flyover. On a regular day, you can feel the road swaying and shaking, just by the mere passing of cars. The Mandaue public market is the tragic example of what happens when the government shortchanges the public by using substandard materials and dubious contractors for their projects.
