Photography Workshop at UP
by Germaine D. Canilao
UP MassCom Intern
Cebu Daily News Saturday 19 May 2007
A Workshop on basic and intermediate digital photography will be held May 28 to June 1
in the campus of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu College in Lahug, Cebu City.
The seminar is being offered the UP Cebu Mass Communication program with the UP Office
of Continuing Education.
“Photography is both a popular hobby and a tool for documentation,” said Marx Iturralde,
UP photography lecturer.
“Since the invention of the camera, photography has captured the artistic imagination of
almost everyone inclined to the field of visual arts. It has also proven its worth as a tool
for unbiased documentation.”
Advances in technology have made digital cameras more affordable and within reach of
consumers from different socio-economic backgrounds.
However, many users still don’t know how to maximize the features of the camera or how
to portray their subjects the best way.
“That is where the training comes in. We intend to provide people with the knowledge
on how to use their cameras effectively, either for documentation or for artistic and
commercial purposes,” Iturralde said.
In the five-day workshop, participants will learn how to maximize the use of digital cameras,
how to use proper lighting, how to take good pictures (composition), and how to use
the personal computer to enhance their digital photographs.
The seminar will be held in UP Cebu’s Interactive Learning Center.
Resource persons include photojournalist and artists like Raymund Fernandez, Roy Lumagbas,
Eisen Job Alquiza, and Michael Mende. Pre-registration starts on May 21.
A registration fee of P3,500 includes snacks, materials, and use of the computer. Bring your
own camera. For inquiries contact 232-8222, 233-8203 or email upcebu-ipo@yahoo.com
