Longing? More like open to the possibility that God exists if the evidence presents itself. Remember that you said I was so close-minded that I wasn't going to believe in God even if revealed Himself to me. So I gave an example how an evidence of a God-like revelation could erase my doubts.
A re-arrangement of the stars to read "GOD BLESS AGNOSTICS AND ATHEISTS" would show a God who's not insecure or jealous or worrying about trifle stuffs...and has a great sense of humor. If God shows up and turns out to be like the Old Testament jealous, insecure and trifling God, then I'd still believe that He exists...but it's not gonna win my respect and admiration, even if I'm just a lowly human being. Those attributes belong more to Oriental despots who demand people of lower status to prostrate themselves before them with their faces grinding on floor and knees shaking. Somehow the high priests of religion have elevated that relationship between despots and subjects to the "divine" level.
I'm sorry but when the stakes are high, the actual Perfect Being must necessarily exceed anyone's best conception of a Perfect Being. If one's name being absent in a baptismal registry, or one's lack of participation in rituals, or one's not having muttered a mumbo jumbo prayer makes Him angry, then that to me is a sign of insecurity. Only human beings will feel that way. If He's insecure, jealous and trifling, then He's not Perfect. It's that simple.
