this is interesting..

as HDMI uses signals similar to a USB, 3 differential signals and that's digital.
with regards to VGA and DVI, DVI has analog signals which i think are directly compatible to VGA.

maybe the cable simoko got was part of a converter package.. wa lang seguro mahatag og apil ang converter.
