Actually it depends upon who is credible enough to be censured and implicated,
both side are capable enough in bringing out something for us to scrutinize,
and we are quite educated in how corruption works, because we live with it for so many decades.
I think this time with the close-knit and effective communication through the net and the capability
to divulge things in incognito, I could assert that it's quite harder to fool the Filipino people nowadays.

I'd really beg to differ. Yes, the times have changed and I guess many can claim the world is more transparent. AFAIK the game stayed the same, but how it is played is different. Back then the truth is revealed when it is uncovered--more often that not. Now, we are led to believe that we have uncovered a truth, but we also have to have a discerning mind and a critical cognition to identify if it is truly the truth or a ruse.

I still believe we Filipinos are a gullible people, and the sooner we accept that truth the better.

That's the thing, how do we discern what/who is credible and what/who is not? How do we call something a fact, when critical thinking implores us to question everything. If it were that easy, then people would have it down to a science, how to we validate the veracity of information when we receive it second-hand, third-hand and so forth, and its delivery subject to partial intent. The only way we could possibly know truth is if we witness the unfolding of an event first-hand, and even then truth is muddled in ambiguity. In the larger scope of things, there is only individual truths as ultimate truth is always elusive.

So when the administration casts the first stone towards the opposition, sometimes even without solid evidence, we immediately decry foul and we want all those "corrupt" officials burned at the stake.

But when the opposition throws one back, again without solid evidence, we immediately discredit and dismiss their statements.

And I thought we were AGAINST CORRUPTION OF ALL KINDS??

Estrada just threw back what was in the audit report. Thus, anyone could not dismiss his statements. The report was there. There was even no bombshell at all.

The only reason for his privilege speech was why they were single out. I heard from reports and also in the senate hearing that DOJ is continuously getting evidences based in the audit report for them to file charges against other culprits and dubious NGOs. If this will happen, then there is no reason for Estrada to cry foul.

That's the thing, how do we discern what/who is credible and what/who is not? How do we call something a fact, when critical thinking implores us to question everything. This is true at some point. Even those cases decided in courts, evidences presented were not all the ultimate truth. What we can do or ask now to avoid similar scam like this, first thing first, is full government transparency -- that all transactions are presented for public scrutiny. This is where FOI helps. Another one I have in mind is that people should learn or start to be vigilant. Use tools like internet and social media. We may have work or personal things to do, somehow we could also spend time to check our government who keep our taxes which is intended for the benefit of our country. In corporate, they will even hire third parties just to ensure how their money goes and check whether there are no dubious transactions, why we can't do the same?
