Heath Ledger: A Real 'Joker'

'Brokeback Mountain' star HEATH LEDGER will play Batman's comically insane arch-nemesis The Joker in the sequel to 'Batman Begins,' according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Leading man CHRISTIAN BALE will return as millionaire playboy Bruce Wayne -- aka Batman -- as will director CHRISTOPHER NOLAN, for the follow-up, titled 'The Dark Knight.'

Heath follows in the footsteps of Hollywood legends JACK NICHOLSON and CESAR ROMERO, who have both played the role in previous big and small screen incarnations of the comic book character.

Production is expected to start early next year.
