Ask ko'g inputs for OC (for a gaming rig only)... i5 "K" CPUs

nag sige ko'g basa2x about sa mga burn-in or stress software ba, naa'y mga benchmark apps na dili optimized "kuno" to test the newer technology... for intel's case, on the FPU for the SB/IB and Haswell micro-architectures. Prime95 in particular... no idea if the newer version, kay fixed na ang issue if its true man gani. mas better kuno ang AIDA64... but, sa duha, mas cooler man ang temp sa CPU if AIDA61 ang gamiton for stress testing... mas higher temp ang Prime95... more or less, the same sa OCCT sila... then ang Intel Burn Test apps, taas2x sya'g temp during the tests...

also, in gaming, as i've observed in playing BF3 and Crysis 3 (these 2 game titles are known to use all available cores) ang temp sa CPU kay w/in the same range lang sa AIDA64 stability testing... no idea pa ko if ang apps kay for video editing na mo utilize sa all available cores pud...

mga OC bros, need your "Platinum thoughts" on this...

i mainly test mine using OOCT and intel burn test, the figures during the test is higher to the figures while playing games, even if these games utilized all cores, the purpose of these test is to really stress the processor, until stability for you to be able to use it on intended purposes. So in my own opinion, after observing and based on my own experiences, naay deperensya during stress tests and actual use. Hence the purpose of these stress tests is to prepare and make a safe borderline for your processor.

for AIDA64, tabla ra sya'g gaming... mura'g kani na test, gi simulate nya ang real application... ang uban mga stress testing man gud kay "extreme" na sila... sakto ka na para ma check ang max temp w/ respect the current cooling system pero, dili man lagi makaabot ani ang actual use gyud...

gabi-i, nag benchmark ko's rig using Crysis 3... 4.0 GHz and 4.6 GHz akoang gi evaluate... almost the same ra man ang performance nila but they differ on the temps... so, akoa lang gi set ug 4.3 GHz ang rig ron para naa "win-win" bah... naa sya sa median sa duha ka temp na akoang gi test... hehehehe...

if gusto kay burn-in while testing stability, id go for IBT, u can compare gflop results sa imo uban settings. d ko mutuo anang synthetic benchmarks. i would rather choose to see real world benchmarks like fps on games and time in seconds for other works(encoding videos perhaps, rendering times, even compression/decompression times).

about sa haswell, lets just say ang "NEW" technology induced ana na processor is wala pa utilized sa market.. hence the almost lesser to no performance difference with ivy..

ang stress test mura ra na ug assurance sa imoha nga in case naay mo come up nga issue after nimo ma-overclock at least 99% ma rule out nimo nga ang imo overclock problema. As for compatibility issue, naay mga nin-ana. AFAIK, ang you can use any stress test software for sb/ib. Wala pa koy nadunggan nga nila compatible ani nila ( limited to mostly used stress test lang ). Sa Haswell li daw pwede ang IBT and Prime 95 cause of the new AVX 2 instruction and outdated version. I cannot attest further about sa imo last statement @lloyd_joy kay naka AMD man ko. But sa akoang experience lang, pinakabugnaw jud sa akoa ang gaming, I have tried Aida64 though mas lower siya compared sa IBT, my gaming temps in Crysis 3 for example is much lower.

About sa advantage of overclocking ( dunno why ni persist ni nga issue ani nga thread ), depende na sa game. What I do, if naay in game benchmark ang dula, ako sa na ipadagan then compare the scores with and without the oc. If wala gain like Tomb Raider 2013 for example, balik ko default speeds. While sa Far Cry 3 balik ko oc speeds. Though I'm hovering at 60fps most of the time with vsync on, I'm getting frame rate drops at stock defaults. And for those who played Far Cry 3 with almost all the bells and whistles I'm sure you're all familiar with the stutter issue once it dips below 50fps. I need to maintain 60fps for a pleasurable experience mao na any performance I could squeeze in I'd take it.

that is not the permanent corrective action bro... "band aid fix" lang na sya... got no time to do more tweaking.. also, i don't want to spend money for now for an Open LCS... so far, manageable ra ang temp sa 4.3 GHz at current voltage setting (again, it's not yet fully optimized)... unya on synthetic burn-in, the temp is lower than 83 Deg C... sa actual gaming, it doesn't reached 80 Deg C... 78 Deg C ra akoang na observed...

if i have time, mag tweak2x napud ko ani nya... i'm not that experienced pa on the voltage tweaking on OC'ing... "trial and error" ning akoang ginabuhat pa diri... hinoon, lingaw man pud... dako lang kaon sa oras...

nice man ang feeling basta good ang results pud... this payback is priceless... hehehe...
