Search for papers brings NBI official to Australia
THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will send an official to the Department of Justice in Australia to request for documents used as basis in convicting Australian nationals who connived in the P3.2-billion shipment of pseudoephedrine in 2004.
NBI Deputy Director Reynaldo Esmeralda said he has been tasked to get the documents, which if granted to him, could be a strong evidence against former Cebu vice governor John Gregory Osmeña and his group.
Esmeralda said Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez has written to the Australian justice department to turn over the evidence to the NBI, an agency under the Philippine Department of Justice (DOJ).
The pseudoephedrine, a precursor of shabu, was imported and shipped to Cebu in March 2004 but was intercepted by the Bureau of Customs (BOC), which turned it over to the NBI.
