Default Miriam wants 'gadget etiquette' in Senate

I shudder at the thought that sa kadagahan nato ug mga seryoso nga issues na kenanglan nila i-address, naa pa sila time magduwa-duwa sa ilang mga gadgets. Murag mga bata!

Mga hinampak -- kadagku ra ba sa sweldo aning mga Senador nya mag-"gadget" ra during their sessions??

This is why I love Miriam -- although there are times na murag over-the-top ra siya pero mostly she is spot on and doesn't think twice about saying what needs to be said.

MANILA – Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago is calling on her colleagues to practice proper etiquette in using electronic devices during Senate sessions and committee hearings.

Santiago has filed a Senate resolution seeking revisions on its rules to include proper decorum on the use of gadgets while inside the chambers of the Senate.

"These gadgets can cause disruption and distraction during sessions and committee hearings. Impairing decorum due to their abuse and misuse can be considered unparliamentary acts," the senator said.

Under Senate Resolution No. 228, Santiago sought amendments on the Senate rules to include “a provision defining and limiting the use of the electronic and mobile devices by members of the senate, as well as its guests, during sessions and committee hearings.”

Santiago filed the resolution after legislators here and abroad were spotted playing mobile games during committee hearings.

She noted that amid “troubling times” for the Senate, the institution should “always maintain and observe a level of decorum this high office deserves.”

"The Senate rules should accommodate for the technologically determined changes in society, in this case the prevalent use of gadgets in everyday life,” the senator said.

Last month, Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile was caught on camera by Senate reporters playing Bejeweled on his iPad tablet during the Senate's Blue Ribbon Committee's hearing on the so-called "*** for flight" scheme.

The 89-year-old Enrile said he plays the tile-matching video game to exercise his mind.

This should be in the "News and Polotics" section, Im sure its gonna be moved anyway so Ill juz post on. Miriam's way of thinking is that of a person who obviously has a very high IQ, so little things like this will not go unnoticed by her. She usually goes for the minor details but with big impacts. MODS, moves please.

So, in your opinion, is it a good thing or a bad thing?

My biggest concern is the complacency that exists at their level. If she wasn't in the Senate, who else would have the balls to call them out?

If you were playing on your iPhone or iPad when you were supposed to be at work, getting paid to do "work"...at any other job, you'd be fired. Pero si Enrile kay gi Alzheimer's naman gud maong ingon ana.
