we just don't need SAM,ASM, we need to combined them with modern ship, jets to at least stand our ground in case of hostilities.
is SAF/PNP ready? the answer is a big NO.... even if ISO is their mandate.... SAM/ASM/AGM are what you gonna use to stand our ground and not jets and ships... they are just vehicle which carries this weapons....

It is basically the same size as the cutter last bought by the Philippine Navy and has been decommissioned as the U.S. Navy has the new and more advanced Arleigh-Burke class guided missile destroyer. If you want to go cheaper, there are guided missile boats that were proven effective against much larger ships.

Also, Russia deploys a guided missile catamaran-style corvette, the Bora class, which is equipped with SAMs and ASMs, for coastal defense and patrol. It is even much smaller than the obsolete cutter they last bought.
AFAIK... on our current state PCG is civillian law enforcement agency task to guard our coast... and being civillian they are not military in nature... would they operate large ships... maybe in the future... but as of now... they cant.. unless PCG will be folded back to AFP

still i have preferred MANPAD and longer radar range... for its cheaper and dual purpose in the long run while waiting for the "eye candies" what other istoryan wants......

hahaha..NO? so how long would they be READY? they are trained better and armed well than a regular army and marines and they still not yet ready? for how long would this situation be? i read in a forum that some SAF operatives are imbedded in army and marines in Mindanao and i believed its true.

jets and ship are used to patrol our skies and shore, isn't that clear? you should know the importance of those two.being a timawa member and thats precisely the reason why DND opted to buy 1st two 2nd hand Hamilton class without the HAPOON or ASM..to patrol our EEZ

    alright SIR?

Is it possible to convert one of our existing C130 cargo planes into an AWACS? Something similar to the plane below?

Or is it redundant once our coastal surveillance system to be put up by raytheon becomes fully operational?

US is the current leader in AWACS technology maybe the americans can help us out.

care to share your reason why AWACS? if we can opted to operate a UAV... transport is the most essential part of any defense... why convert or dwindling fleet of C130? why not just get UAV? whats the cost of operation? fuel? electronics? training of staff? whats the advantage over a land based radar?

I asked the question first, you didn't notice?

"Is it possible to convert one of our existing C130 cargo planes into an AWACS? Something similar to the plane below?"

"Or is it redundant once our coastal surveillance system to be put up by raytheon becomes fully operational?"

    OMG you are so dense.

While the AWACS system is the best radar system around because it eliminates blind spots, the electronics systems that goes with it costs hundreds of millions of dollars for one of those. I doubt that we can afford it because the DND has budgeted around $60 million for three radar systems.

Thanks. That's the right reply I was looking for. Not some dense rhetoric that obviously does not help put the point across.

oh yes i notice, but your question is suggesting, my question is why you choose awacs in the first place, you should have rephrase you question into non suggestive manner... coastal surveillance wont become redundant... just the system used... seriously... if you are in philippine defense forum... you're already shot in the head... and yours truly would be one of them.. to pull the trigger...

ive been in this type of discussion before and its more concise and productive.. hence i rarely comment here... i just let you kids play....

avoid direct suggestion or suggesting something that you are not even prepared to backed it up... my question basicly asking why choose AWACS... you cant even read my question from between the line... seriously... wa ka kasabot diay... then there is no sense in continuing in discussing with you...

you could have rephrased it like this -> Is it possible to convert one of our existing C130 cargo planes into an AWACS? because AWACS has blah...blah...blah...blah...yadda...yadda...yadda. ..yadda...yadda...

im with @salbahis, I'm also wondering why you open that kind of topic cause it's so unpractical.
