hypothetical situation: system locks up on normal boot. can boot to safe mode but cannot connect to internet still. spyware issue. dsl connection. what are the things to keep checked under the startup list under msconfig to remove all unnecessary spyware/software that could be the possible and still retain the software that loads up the dsl connection?
1. NEVER download attachments, even from people you know. Computers usually gets infected easily with this way.
2. NEVER use OUTLOOK or OUTLOOK EXPRESS as your email client because these softwares automatically run attachments downloaded from POP servers. So when somebody has sent you a virus attachment, by simply downloading it using OUTLOOK/OUTLOOK EXPRESS you as good as infected... use EUDORA instead.
3. NEVER install P2P softwares if you don't know how to protect your computer. Always install 1 antivirus, 1 firewall and 1 good spyware software before accessing the Internet.
4. NEVER forward or reply to chain mails because this is one sure way to include your email address to MASTER LIST OF EMAILS TO BE SPAMMED! Additionally, viruses that harvest email addresses can aquire your address this way and sent itself a copy to you.
5. NEVER use your personal email address like company email address to register on any website online. This email address should only be used for internal correspondence within the company. Use a web-based email service instead like Yahoo! Mail and the likes for online registration.
imo, kahit 10 antivirus pa or 10 firewall pa ang install mo sa computer but you're too stupid to protect yourself online e wag ka ng magtaka kse mai-infect ka pa rin.
