if you have a desktop you can try hooking it up and retrieve the files from there.
to be sure you're not wasting time and money having the usb port repaired, ask him/her to
access the drive first and make sure nothing's wrong with it.
if the repair is not cost effective, you can just buy a new hdd enclosure,
or get one of these...

dili na pwede papilit miga... kinahanglang na isolda basin naibot na sa iya sinoldahan, after solda pwede na nimo butangan ug epoxy in between sa USB port ug PCB board arun pilit... ayaw lang butangi epoxy ang terminal or contact kay di jud na magamit...

pangita didto cellphone technician duol sa inyo kay kabalo na, basin madala ra nag smile ug 100 pesos or 50 kay solda ra man na...
