If you want information about the Lavilles family, contact me via pm. I can have my grandmother (Marietta de Egurrola) and her sister (Evangeline de Paula) talk to you. I'm quite sure they would be happy to sit down and talk to you

this is a series of postings of the pre-war Colegio de San Carlos Building.

This particular photo shows temporary shops where the old CSC used to stand. This was taken in 1946, a year before the construction of the Dingman Building, which was finished in 1948 just as CSC had become USC. The car about to turn the corner is coming from Pelaez Street going into P. Del Rosario. The building at the other end with two finials or elongated posts is a movie house, called Capitol Theater. All these were removed in 1947 to give way to the new building.

An advertisement from one of the 1932 issues of Progress, the English-language weekly magazine published by Don Vicente Rama. The Kamputhaw Subdivision, owned by Dr. N. T. Deen...

This subdivision appears to have been just across the western side of Ayala Center Cebu and further back (where you now find Quest Hotel, Parklane Hotel and a new condo even further west.

Note the line "formerly the Cebu Golf Course," which would mean perhaps across Club Filipino that eventually became Ayala Business Park. I wonder what this boulevard is that it talks about? Archbishop Reyes Avenue or Bishop Gorordo Avenue?

Does this house still stand? Did it survive the war? hmmmm...

The old convento of the Padres Recoletos was demolished in the late 1940s to give way to the CSJ-R San Nicolas Building. It was
designed by Architects Imelda Borromeo and Mariano Monasque and was finally inaugurated on July 25, 1950.

In this photo, you can still see the centuries old Yglesia de los Padres Recoletos / Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception / Our Lady of Mt. Carmel undergoing renovation with the San Nicolas building nearing completion. In less than 10 years' time, the centuries old church fronting Freedom Park would be demolished and replaced with the present church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel after a long and hard boardroom battle between the administrators who wished to preserve the old church and the modernists who wanted a spanking new cement and concrete church.

saka ta nih... sorry guys its been for so long wala naku na update na busy gyud ko..

the Visayas alone was named after empire of Sri Vijaya. When the empire fell most of its datu fled to the islands of Panay and later to other islands of the Philippines.

But get this guys. The 3 stars from the Philippines Flag originally meant Luzon, Panay and Mindanao right? Spaniards before named Luzon, Panay and Mindanao as to Cebu, Leyte and Bohol...they called it Pintados probably because of the people who are usually inked in this areas-this could be the reason.
