Here's some preliminary benchmarks of Crysis but this is unreliable information until optimized drivers are released and the game matures.

I think it's best to wait until Dx10 games are available.

Geforce 8600 will run on par with 7600-7900 series depending on the variant (GT,GTS, Overclocked)

on par? take a look at this

i think ang 8600GTS ang on par sa 7600GT in todays games pero mahal nasad

That's why it's difficult to justify purchasing the 8600 now. If this is the performance level with today's games, unsa pa kaha ang performance for upcoming DX10 titles like Crysis, Halo 3?

    @baijo

youtube video testimonials don't really show the performance level sa 8600... mas scientific ang actual game benchmark figures.

vipvip68,thanks bro ,but to darkwing, i have also read that, that game na 7600gt beats the 8600gt is that until now wala pa ma optimize ang driver para sa 8 series, ika duha basaha ra gud ang Nvidia website bai na daghan pa incompatible ang driver sa 8 series to many games..... ang drivers for 7 series optimize na, infact i am not using the 8600gt original, i am currently using the 8600gt sonic which is faster than gt alone.

    # Updated May 31, 2007: Posted new version of the U.S. English driver kit to properly install the WHQL cerification.
    # WHQL certified driver.
    # Increased performance in 3D applications.
    # "Numerous game and application compatibility fixes."...........KINI SABTA NI...

But as i said if you have even 7300gt up to 7900gt no need to upgrade for a midrange 8 series card as of today...

when it comes to real game dako kaau impact ang compatibility sa duha, game software and videocard driver....

and Nvidia accept the fact na ang ilang driver for 8 series daghan pa compatibility issue with many games.....as of today,

so far the only measure although dili na siya accurate no kana ra jud 3dmark2006 benchmark ang ato mabasihan sa kakusgun sa 8 series midrange, kai ang mga game software ang Nvidia driver development theme magsabot pana sila sa patches.....ana ra na mga bro.

bro basaha ninyu bro, big question why i chose to buy this 8600gt sonic, kai ang 7600gt gud dili na jud kaduwa sa dx10game,i doubt it mas naa pay pag asa ang 8600gt, so far as i have said Nvidia still develop driver for 8 series for compatiblity sa current games, unlike the 7 series stable na drivers, isa pa ang nice na environment sa mga 8 series ang vista naman gud pod, pero take a look sa quality sa 8600gt compare to all 7 series in vista ultimate......both video & picture quality....

    please click the link above..thanks

Whatever the case may be, we'll know for sure once naa nay DX10 game benchmarks available.

btw, I had a 6600GT before with old drivers pa to... wala man koy problema with counterstrike ato nga time... i dont know what you mean by "maut mu dagan". Maybe you got a lemon or a crappy brand like inno3d.

If your argument for the slow performance of Geforce 8 series is due to incompatibilities / unoptimized drivers... then how come sa 8800 series dako man kaayo ang performance difference with respect to the top of the line sa 7 series (Geforce 7900GTX). Driver optimizations can probably give a few bumps to the performance pero it's not gonna be something miraculous. Bottom line sa 8600 series is it's using 128bit interface... in that respect limited gyud iyang performance headroom.

Until Dx10 game benchmarks come out, there's no way to know if kaya ba or dili sa 7600GT ang game. I understand you want to take advantage sa latest features sa DX10 with all the graphics.
    Akong point lang ani is...

    1. DX10 games will still support DX9 so it's not a necessity to get DX10 gyud. (as of now)
    2. If you run the game in DX10, graphic intensive na kaayo ang game. How can an 8600GT cope with this without turning down other options since it's performance level isn't that strong?
Murag maka ingon ka nga DX10 lagi but low quality settings sad ang game... so that kinda negates the reason of going for DX10 (better graphics).
    3. With a 256bit 7 series or X1k series, you can run the new games at DX9 lang lagi. Pero since Dx9, you can run it at medium settings ...and pwede pa higher res.

compare let's say, a X1950XT with 8600GTS...(currently sold at similar price) mas mu last pa na ang X1950XT before u will want to upgrade.

Too early pa to buy into DX10 karon..... no games, most users arent using vista yet and wala pay SP1. Get Dx10 later when games are out na. By then mas value for money na ang available sa market.

    now presyu sa karon
    Inno3D/Sparkle 7900GS 256ddr3 dvi 256bit .........9,000pesos
Palit gf 8600gt sonic .........................................6,800peso s pilay derpercya?

if naa ko 9000 ug naa pako extra money dretsu nalang ko 8800gts at 15k kai sa mag 7900gs pako
if ako budget kaau kini nalang 8600gt....price/performance ratio dri sa Cebu...

    I'll summarize my points here.

The pros and cons of the 8600GT (not GTS)
(p.s. this is just my opinion)

    Pros:

+ Good HD video playback (good for media center pc's)
    + Low wattage
    + Dx10 support
+ Single Slot (important for SFF systems)
    + Inexpensive / Affordable
    + High 3dmark scores

    Cons:

    - Following the history of developments in Nvidia's cards, the game performance of the 8600 series does not live up to previous Awarded Nvidia midrange cards (6600, 7600)
    - Questionable Dx10 performance given that it is easily beaten by the high end 7 series (7900 up)
    - Dx10 games will require a lot of GPU power (What good will a dx10 card be if bag-o pa lang gawas ang Dx10 games unya you will be playing at low settings na dayon.)
    - 128bit interface which has very slow performance at higher resolutions. 19" wide monitors have become affordable so a lot of users will want to run it at higher res such as 1440x900.
Most LCD monitors don't look that good when you play at interpolated res.
