The problem of this Ipod Shuffle losing its headset is that most of its controls are found not in the mp3 player itself but on its headset. The volume, play, pause, jump to next track and playlist choice are to be controlled from the headset. You cannot just simply buy the standard earpiece that Apple sells. Without the correct earpiece, the player is near worthless.
