Suspected thief hid in Cebu mall ceiling? | ABS-CBN News

CEBU – Gaisano Fiesta Mall in Talisay City, Cebu was closed early Monday after management received reports of a man hiding in the ceiling.


Jinky Labra, a saleslady in one of the shops, said they saw the man when his foot went through the ceiling.


"He must have stepped on a weak part in the ceiling and he almost fell. We saw his foot drop," Labra said.


Jessie Necezario, chief security of the mall, said the man must have entered the ceiling through the comfort room.


Members of Talisay City Police and SWAT responded to the scene to look for the man, whom they suspect is a robber.


SPO1 Mikie Espina, leader of the responding team, said a new modus operandi may involve hiding in the mall’s ceiling during off hours.


"He enters the mall a few minutes before closing time, he hides until there are no other people in the area, that's when he sends himself to the ceiling," said Espina.


Police have yet to establish how long the suspect has been staying in the ceiling, but noted that they found food items and clothes in the ceiling believed to be owned by the suspect.


It was business as usual at the mall Tuesday. Shoppers continued to come in as police conducted its investigation inside the mall.


Espina said that there is a big possibility that the suspect has already left the mall.


The tenants in the mall have yet to file a complaint, police said.
