I think this may be the issue. but if this happens why doesnt it POST? i also tried the i7 3770K which was supported only on the version 1.6

Anybody have any idea how to update the bios without a compatible procie?
Your bios version seems to be a pre-B3 revision bios. Im betting you could possibly update bios with at least a 1.20 bios.

B2 revision boards are not compatible with new UEFI that supports Ivy Bridge.

Today "new" UEFI showed again but now they are equiped with Windows flash tool which check if you have B3 board. If you have B2 then installator won't flash new UEFI.

Ok to capsulate everything.. Older chipsets that are newly bought does not necessarily mean they have an updated BIOS... Chipsets that have been created before the processor WILL have compatibility issues..

-> If a mobo is for sandy it WILL NOT work for ivy if it is brand new (assuming a bios update has not been done)
-> Always assume that the bios in a brand new MOBO has not been updated.. always check the mobo for indications of the preloaded bios version and check the manufacturer site if the MOBO will work on your procie beforehand
-> if a MOBO is acquired via trade, always ask the seller what PROCIE he was using with the mobo, to have an idea of the current compatible PROCIE this MOBO has
-> You can update a BIOS Version via USB
-> If the MOBO is able you can update a bios version via internet thru the UEFI BIOS interface. (this is what i did)
-> It is never a good attitude to readily rely on RMA. You can learn many things if you try to fix things yourself
