The nulear energy technology has become very advanced now so that it can be considered a safe source of energy. The cost of building one though, is prohibitive. The best Cebu should do right now is to utilize affordable technology to slow down the pace of environmental disaster until the government or a private company can afford to build one. The government, for instance, can require newly built buildings to have underground or above ground tanks to store run off rain water that could be used to flush toilets, water plants or for cleaning purposes. Families can be encouraged to use the sun for cooking purposes. I have seen prototypes of sun ovens that can bake bread or cook a meal. Research in wave technology, windmills and solar energy can be encouraged some more.

I go for windmills, although dili siguro ni kaayo dako og supply sa power but it will help for sure. Lets say a certain town is not dependent from veco because they have windmills to provide them with electricity. Kung sulayan lang murag effective siguro labi natong mga bukid bukid na lugar. Just my two cents........

Shall the Philippines shift to Nuclear Power Plants?

I say YES due to the following reasons:

1. Our Hydro power is limited to big islands and the water supply is not steady.
2. Our Geothermal is mostly Wet Steam not like the Dry Steam type of other countries like US. Eventually, maybe they will run out of steam.
3. Coal is dirty and we don't have a local supply.
4. Diesel is good but we have not developed our own oil fields yet.
5. Bio-Diesel is impossible in the next 20years. Plus, it consumes food that should have gone to the plates of the poor.
6. Solar is unstable, too expensive and too inefficient per killowatt hour it produces.
7. Wind, not all the islands have it and it is unstable.
