MS is evil because people think it's cool to hate Microsoft even if they don't know why they are hating Microsoft. Even if it's not Microsoft's fault, it must be because of Microsoft. People who don't know how to use a computer blame Microsoft. People who don't have the hardware to run their software blame Microsoft. People who pirate Microsoft software blame Microsoft. People whose software don't run on Vista blame Microsoft even if their developer tells them it won't run on Vista. Jews blame Microsoft for Hitler's birth. Pro lifers blame Microsoft for killing babies. Microsoft is the cause of global warming. It is all Microsoft's fault. What is really funny is that the majority of people blaming Microsoft for all their sins haven't used anything but Microsoft and don't realize all the hassle that learning and using something like Linux brings. Half the people complaining about Microsoft and Vista probably didn't buy their copy. But hey, that is ok, it's cool to blame Microsoft.

Seriously, this is what I gathered so far....Originally Posted by vern
If you already have XP, and you don't have a program that requires Vista to run, DON'T upgrade yet.
If you buy a new computer, then get Vista to be future proof.
If you want to avoid most program incompatibilities, get the 32 bit version. Get the 64 bit version if you're not afraid to uhmmm... experiment or you have 64 bit programs you really need to run (FarCry, HalfLife 2, etc. for gamers).
If you're getting 2 copies of Vista, get one 32 bit version and another 64 bit version. The serial number will work for both versions as long as they're the same edition. That way, when all your apps are 64 bit ready, you won't need to buy another copy.
I suppose the problem here is not the MS Vista but the user. No intention to offend anyone here. If you buy or use something, for sure you have a purpose. right?
Just like if you want to go swimming, you are suppose to buy a swim wear, not a jacket or a rain coat.
Choose an operating system which best suit your needs and not just because its new in the market. In our workplace, we have a mix of Vista and XP and still even NT in our workstations. Vista are mostly for desktop use - emails, documents, spreadsheets, technical presentations, project management, etc. All the rest are running on XP - Firmware devt, hardware interfacing and debug, etc. Some of our firmware designers have even tried running their emmulators and do their firmware development in Vista. A few complains so far.
If you are really craving to have a Vista experience, go for a branded PC, with this you are sure that you have no or minimal hw compatibility problems.
Just so people don't get me wrong, I am not a pro-MS monger. I use the right tools for the right job. If it happens to be from Microsoft, so be it. I have run and used Linux for many years, I have used Debian, Redhat Linux, Fedora, Ubuntu, SuSe, Mandrake, Slackware ... Slackware being my favorite for it's simplicity, and played various BSD distros. With that said, Vista remains my chosen work desktop and I dual boot with Windows XP until DX10 games start coming out of the floodgates. I find the biggest design flaw any OS has is the user. I don't remember having any adware/spyware/etc on any Windows installation I've used for years, does that mean Microsoft OSs are safe? ... no. Feed the general public Linux, and everyone will see where the design flaw and bugs are ... and see that the user is the weakest of any link.
