I come from a line of people whom have this personal enmity towards Aguinaldo for killing one of our ancestors. This feud has become more of a distant memory as time goes by but still have relatives who look at the Red, White and Blue Marharlika flag with disdain and calls it the "traitor's flag". Aguinaldo's way of taking and manipulating his way to power is a perfect caricature of modern Philippine politics. As for me I do not see the point of continuing these antiquated hate anymore but these facts and overshadowed part of our history needed to be exposed.

Same thing here. And at the end of the day the question is 'What for?' The good thing about this country is that we've become multicultural through natural means (ie. through factors of time and geography) and not by government or state coercion. We were not conditioned to be ultra sensitive about any particular ethnic background we belong to but to only one - as Filipinos.

yep, although a bit unfair for us here below. But even the US decided it would be Manila since it is strategically located and can easily be defended plus the fact that almost all important government structures are located their already (sadly the most prominent and educated as well). It's only a matter of who gets to sit as head (american governor general), as long as the public service is fair for all parts of the country.

non the less positive side having a city the capital or location or location of almost all government buildings is that industries, education, etc would be an eye magnet for investors. And with the fact that mindanao is not yet "tamed" so the risk of having the capital in Visayas would be too high as history tells of regular raids from pirates in mindanao (not just muslims, to be fair).

For me, it was a blessing that the Americans came. If not, civil war for a much longer time would happen as what the article sad about the Visayans not accepting the Tagalogs. Tag of war, alliances, traitors, etc would be the result. All in all, we are all gonna suffer.

If a tagalog would claim the seat for the republic at that time of the brief independence, surely the visayans and other tribal lords in parts of mindanao would not recognize him and claim it for themselves. Mas maau gyud neutral ang ni puli. Anyway, I read somewhere before that after the war of US and Spain... the US felt the obligation to govern the Philippine Islands as they themselves feel many would die if they let us be waging war ourselves. Pareha nahitabo sah Afghanistan before during the cold war, ila gitabangan den gibyaan and nahitabo daghan patay after they left.
