    Default Papers for wild animals?

Let me get this straight, Almost every now and then i find people selling wild animals in the classifieds saying they have DENR PAPERS for the said animal. Given that the seller might have DENR papers for the wild specimen, the paper is non-transferrable as it is only an accreditation for the seller's entity and not for the animal. Facilities accredited by the DENR are either given a FARM permit or CWR (Certificate of Wildlife Registration) which is renewed every 3-5 years and if i am not mistaken DENR has withheld the further accreditation of new and some questionable institutions for this year. Meaning that if people here buy wild animals, they are obliged to go to DENR and get themselves accredited before they can own a wild specimen otherwise the animal is subject for sequestration by either the DENR personnel themselves or by any mere policeman. In any case that a wild animal is bred in captivity, the owner is bound by duty to report to the DENR any offsprings produced by their stock such that a captive bred certification may be issued and such is the only time one person can legally sell the captive bred animal but still the soon to be buyer must still get an accreditation.

    Calling DENR ......................

well said. i hope people will learn to put the lives of these wild animals above their personal gain, unless of course it is for a greater purpose such as conservation and education. but hobbyists and private collections should not, especially the endangered ones.

i also do not want to see such illegal trades happening on this site....it already is so i hope the mods will do something about it.

It all seems to be about paperwork and money. I don't hear much about education, protection or conservation programs. I for one am deeply disappointed about wildlife protection or lack thereof.

well paperwork really plays a major role in it but in terms of money, i'd beg to differ as a farm permit can be obtained with only 5 thousand pesos and thats already good for 5 years with an unlimited number of animals except for critically endangered species such as the Philippine Eagle as there are only two accredited breeding institutions allowed to keep such species. I too am disappointed about the lack of effort from the government and the lack of support (more so that DENR ranks among the most corrupt Departments of the Government) and from what i can see, there are only a couple of personnel that are tasked to the protection of the local species here in Cebu thus trades happening in the net cant be fully monitored. The conservation efforts now falls to private institutions such as Zoos but still a large gap needs to be filled in order propel this endeavor.

Among the paperworks that needs to be completed are 1.) animal inventory (complete with sci. names) 2.) Budget Plan (Bank and monetary accounts to prove financial capacity) 3.) Cage and enclosure dimensions and plans 4.) Scientific expertise ( Educational background of personnel and staff) 5.) farm permit form 6.) SEC accreditation and i forgot one more (hehehe) . It really entails a lot of work to get these things but i think it is just proper for it to be a deterrent for fancy keepers from getting accredited. I strongly believe that the keeping of these wild species should only be granted to the truly dedicated people and not to fancy keepers who have a shallow and temporary wanting for these endangered species.

thanks Ironwood, i just find it immature if not irritating to find people who want to sell their wild animals under a fraudulent cover that these are DENR registered so as not to get criticisms from fellow istoryans. This is also for our fellow istoryans who deserve to know the true nature and systematics of getting a DENR accreditation as a prerequisite of owning a wild / endangered species. More so, i also feel responsible for the fate of the traded animals knowing that i could have done something to keep them out of peril other than just dying in the hands of self glorifying individuals who keep them as trophies, to keep them out from individuals who see them as a bragging right tickets.

me myself didnt know that - the paper/permit diay is for the owner NOT on the wild animal. so, simply put, if you buy a wild animal from another enthusiast, you still have to secure a permit for yourself and cant make use of the other guy's permit. thats clear.
