Learning doesn't equate as to the books or modules that you read nor worksheets
that you answer as application to what you have learned. It also entails getting inputs
from your peers to validate what you have gotten from these literature.

Learning is still a human experience for everyone to enjoy and not to the confines
in your own home. I don't think the person who is homeschooled will be equipped to
the real world out there for the lack of interaction with other fellow students.

To alleviate such education probs that we now have, mismanagement of government
funds in our education program should be dealt with. However this is such a hard feat
since our nation is crippled with graft and corruption resulting to funds being usurped by
our ever beloved officials to their own whims at our own expense especially the future of
of our children who are supposed to help in building our nation.

So, for me home schooling is not the solution... it should start with our government to
start fixing our education program... we have a lot of unemployed teachers to begin with.

    Tsk.
Exactly! A lot of unemployed teachers. If there's a lot of homeschoolers, they won't be out of job anymore!

Don't misinterpret that homeschoolers are staying at home 24/7. Most homeschoolers have a lot of time for fun, mostly 4 hours a day of studying is enough to cover all the subjects. So parents and kids have a lot of time for activities. If interaction is the problem, homeschoolers can unite and build a daily activities for their kids, or if you have extra money, enroll your kids to a club or sports they like. Like piano, or dancing club, surely, they will get a lot of interaction there. Not to mention, less bullying.

It becomes a compelling option once you lay down the data in front of you. According to a 2003 survey of 7,300 homeschooled adults in the U.S. by the National Home Education Research Institute:

    1) Homeschool graduates are active and involved in their communities. 71% participate in an ongoing community service activity and civic affairs.

    2) 58.9% report that they are "very happy" with life, compared with 27.6% for the general U.S. population.

    3) 73.2% find life "exciting", compared with 47.3%.

In a survey in South Carolina, homeschoolers averaged higher scores on college entrance tests.

Other test scores (numbers from 1999 data) showed mixed results...but still shows an overall dominance by the homeschooled population:
    1) English (homeschooled 23.4 vs national average 20.5) and
    2) ACT Reading (homeschooled 24.4 vs national average 21.4)
    3) ACT Math (homeschooled 20.4 vs national average 20.7)
    4) SAT Math (homeschooled 535 vs national average 511).

Home educators spend only an average of $500–$600 a year on each student, compared to $9,000-$10,000 for each public school student in the United States. It raised the question on how much more dominant home-educated students would be on tests if afforded access to an equal commitment of tax-funded educational resources.

We can say that the survey was not comprehensive enough or that the results are not that definitive. Whatever the case may be, the available data still makes a very compelling case. I mean, didn't conventional wisdom say that this was such a bad idea? Then why do the numbers tell a different story?

Dugay na man ning homeschooling.
