Pedophillia is both a crime and a illness. It is a crime in by our rules and laws but it is also a mental illness in the medical field. It is considered a crime since it is immoral by and taboo by the view point of our society. When we view it in the medical field, it is an illness because it a state of mind that is a psychosexual disorder in which the fantasy or act of engaging in sexual activity with prepubertal children is the preferred or exclusive means of achieving sexual excitement and gratification. It may be heterosexual or homosexual.

If a pedophile abuse a minor, the crime is either rape or sexual assualt not pedophilia.
