As long as china supports north korea the US will always be confronting DPRK with aggressive behaviour. US is using NK to leverage their stance against china as they do not want to directly confront the big red dragon.

As long as DPRK is in a tense situation with the US, china will always allocate some of her resources to DPRK even if it is at a loss to them.

China can't afford to lose NK should it fall since it would be open on the flank to south Korea and japan.

In terms of trade, US can't afford a war since that will devalue the petrodollar overnight.

So this is a game they still play, to keep us all entertained.
